After leaving Oslo, we got settled into our room on the ship and started the process of figuring out where everything was located at. This cruise ship was actually the smallest ship we’ve cruised on, but it was still massive. Brady of course found all sorts of fun things to do since it was a new place and experience. He loved walking up and down the stairs and insisted that him and I walk up on separate sides of the rail. It was a fun game for him the entire week. Pushing the elevator buttons was also a highlight. Another favorite for Brady was running through the long hallways. I’m not sure the housekeeping staff or fellow passengers enjoyed this, but oh well. Brady also surprisingly really enjoyed the shows. His favorite were the ones with dancing and upbeat music. One of the nights there was a singing show with slower songs (not sure the genre, maybe ‘soul’ music) and he broke out in his imitation of the singer at a quiet point in the show. All of a sudden we hear this, “AWWWWW” in a high pitched voice. We ended up leaving that one early, but the others he did pretty well at.

Copenhagen, Denmark was the first port of call on the cruise. We opted to take the ‘Cory Walking Tour’ at this stop. First stop was the famous Little Mermaid Statue which was inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen tale. We snapped a bunch of pictures and did some posing. We were pretty happy that we had found our first tourist stop within 5 minutes of getting off the boat. However, little did we realize, we had the wrong mermaid.

After the mermaid, we had a bit of a hiccup in the ‘Cory Walking Tour’. The map the boat provided was not the greatest and seemed to be missing about 90% of the street names. We took off with confidence, but clearly were not in the area we intended to be in. We ended up taking about a 45 min – 1 hour detour, but all intended up ok. I gave Cory a bit of a hard time about the map, getting lost, etc, but I will admit that I put in no effort to planning the day nor did I offer any assistance when we got lost so I am equally responsible. We all decided the detour was good because we got to see a bit of the residential areas of Copenhagen, chat with some locals, etc. I’ve always taken the nice touristy maps that hotels provide for granted. Lesson learned, next stop first priority is to find a nice detailed map.
After we were back on track we stopped by the Rossenborg Castle. My mom and Leonard went on the tour, but since Cory and I are castled out we decided to walk around the city a little more. After the castle, we did some more exploring and went on a multi-hour search for Tivoli Gardens (known for famous gardens and an amusement park) which we never found, but apparently were only minutes away. We were not meant to find Tivoli Gardens and it became a joke for the rest of the week. At every stop I was asked to identify my ‘Tivoli’ spot so we made sure not to miss it. In Stockholm, they actually also have a Tivoli gardens so then the joke became that we couldn’t find it because we were looking in the wrong country. Ha, ha, ha. Everyone thought this was pretty funny except for me.
The city center was very bustling and picturesque.
After our search for Tivoli Gardens we started the trek back to the boat. By this point in time we had a quality map so we had not problems locating the ship. We also happened upon the real Little Mermaid.
