Ellie's accident

I never imagined that Ellie would be the first one of the kids to get stitches.  We got a call from school telling us she fell and hit her head on the corner of the door and had a cut on her head.  We have had calls before for bumps, bruises and small cuts and typically they are nothing to worry about.  This time was a little different as they said while they had the bleeding under control they really wanted one of us to come take a look and make an assessment of whether she needed to be taken in.  Cory happened to be working from home so he picked her up.   Neither of us really gave any thought to where to take her so Cory just took her to the pediatricians office since they had walk in hours.  She got three stitches and did really well the whole time at the doctor.  In hindsight I'm worried that we should have taken her to a plastic surgeon.  I know it sounds vain, but I really don't want my daughter to have a Frankenstein scar on her head.  I guess we'll will see how it heals.

Brady felt bad for Ellie, but I think he was also jealous of the attention she was getting.  He got a very small scratch on his head and insisted that it needed a bandaid and that it was just as bad as Ellie's cut.

Roller Skating

I loved roller skating as a kid.  When we were little we went most Saturday mornings.  We would take a skate class and then stay for open skate.  My sisters and I not only liked skating, we also had skating outfits (think gymnastic(ish) with a skirt).  Brady and I met up with some friends of ours for our inaugural skate.  Brady was extremely confident that he was going to be an "awesome" skater.  The kid is not lacking in confidence.  When we checked in and paid they asked if we wanted a skate helper.  I asked Brady what he thought and he said, "no, I am good."  About 3 minutes after our arrival we were back at the front purchasing a skate helper.  It started off a little rocky.  Brady was frustrated, fell quite a few times and after each lap insisted we take a break.  I was getting a sore back trying to keep him upright and pull him up off the ground.  After about an hour, he started to get much more confident and was doing pretty well.  At the end he was even ok with taking a lap without me.  I have no recollection of skate helpers or spending lots of time on the ground, but I'm guessing it's like anything that you just have to put in some practice time.   I am proud to say that I stayed upright the entire time.   Brady wants to make a return trip to see Daddy skate.  I think I'd like to see that too so I think we will go back.

Topeka Discovery Center

Cold weather go away, we are running out of indoor activities.  We decided to try out a children's museum we haven't been to before.  Topeka has a newer children's museum called the Discovery Center.   Brady loved the grain exhibit where you could transport grain all sorts of different ways.  Ellie also liked the grain exhibit, but while Brady enjoyed operating the levee, conveyors, cranking the wheel she enjoyed picking up the tiny grains and trying to sneak them in her mouth.  Ellie also enjoyed the pretend food exhibit.  She is really good at making pretend eating sounds, but she also likes to sneak real tastes.

Monster Jam

Brady had a blast at Monster Jam.  He had seen advertisements on TV and mentioned multiple times how AWESOME he thought it looked.  Brady and Cory had a special boys outing for the show.  Watching trucks jump over and smash things is not on my to do list at all.  If Ellie ever expresses interest in going to the show it may have to be a Cory, Brady, Ellie outing.  Grave Digger came out victorious.  Don't worry, Brady wore ear protection during the show.

Class Fish

On the way home from school Brady told me his class was getting a fish.  Overall he was excited about the fish, but when he was done describing the fish he says in a really sad voice "Mom, I really wanted wanted a baby great white shark instead of a fish, but the tank is too big for the class.  Can we get one for home?"  Great idea buddy, but I think we will leave the sharks at the aquarium.

Winter blast

Cory and Brady were outside shoveling our recent winter blast of snow.  I was upstairs and peaked out the window and captured Brady in the bushes.  Brady loves everything about snow.  He likes sledding, making snow balls and even rolling around in it.  He was outside for a good hour and when he came in he told me he was really cold.  I suggested it was because he was laying in the snow and was wet, but he did not think that had anything to do with it.

Winter Blues

We are so sick of winter.  Brady spent the day reminding me that the groundhog saw it's shadow so we have six more weeks of winter.  I can tolerate that if it's in the 50s, but I am sick of freezing cold winter.  We really should have planned a beach vacation.  Note to self to get that on the books for next year.  We are trying hard to find indoor activities to get us out of the house.  We visited Wonderscope and it was a perfect day to go as I think most people were at home getting ready for the Super Bowl.  Brady's favorite room as always been the room with the ramps and golf balls.  Ellie liked all the rooms, but particularly liked the toddler play room.  She found a little friend that she followed around which was cute to watch.
