Easter 2013

Easter is not complete without the annual Easter egg dyeing.  We settled on four eggs, one for each family member. Cory and I both like eating hard boiled eggs, but they lose their eating appeal when they are dyed.

Brady has a late afternoon soccer game on Saturday so we got a late start heading to Wichita.  It was a short trip, but was good to see everyone as always.  Grandpa Larry sang in early service.  Afterwards we had a big lunch and the kids had a Easter egg hunt.

Brady's 1st Soccer Game

Brady is playing organized soccer for the first time this spring.  The league is setup so the first 30 minutes are practice and the last 30 minutes is a 3 vs. 3 game.  Brady loves soccer and loves playing with his friends from school.  There is no score keeping, but the Thunder (team name) definitely won their first game by a landslide.  Brady made several goals and was very excited!

Cerner Easter Event

Cerner put on another great kids holiday event.  Brady ran into his good buddy from school which made the morning even more fun.  Brady did great in the Easter egg hunt.  They had it divided into three different age group.  Ellie's age group was 0 - 2 so I thought she would do OK picking up a few eggs since it was all little kids, but she freaked out with all the people and kids around her.  You will just have to imagine a cute picture of her picking up eggs because if I had taken a picture it would have had tears.  Maybe next year.

When I grow up

Brady has been talking a lot about what he wants to be when he grows up.  Currently he wants to be a trash man.  He's going to drive the truck with his school buddy Finton.  His best buddy Marcus is going to drive the other truck and Barrett is going to be the collector.  I asked him what he would do as a trash man and he explained that he would drive the truck and push the button (we have high tech trash trucks).  This morning was trash day and typically the recycling truck comes by right around 7:30 when we're leaving the house.  He ran outside to watch because he needed to get some tips on his future job.  I told him that trash men don't make too much money and he told me that it was OK he only needed a little bit of money.  I'm glad he has a plan and I will try to be my best to be supportive of his trash man ambitions.  I have to remind myself that I wanted to drive an ice cream truck when I was his age so there is plenty of time to have a change of heart about desired profession.

Good morning!

On the occassion Brady wakes up before Ellie he is happy to help with waking her up!  We're fine with letting him help with morning wake-up, but I don't get too excited when he decides to use the intercom feature on her monitor at night.  A couple times I have caught him on the monitor saying "Ellie, this is your brother.  Wake up."

Puzzle Time

Both Brady and Ellie love puzzles.  Brady likes putting them together and Ellie thinks they are pretty yummy!

Sporting Home Opener

Cory and Brady went to the Sporting home opener versus the Chicago Fire.  They had fun, but I was definitely OK staying warm at home with Ellie.  Crazy KC weather, it was 80 yesterday and the high today was in the 40s.

Shawnee St. Patrick's Day Parade

You know you have cabin fever when you think it's a good idea to go to a parade when it's barely 40 degrees outside.  Shawnee was having it's annual St. Patrick's day parade so we decided to go.  It lasted about 30 minutes which was perfect given the weather.  The highlight for me was the Jimmy John sandwiches that were handed out by a float in the parade.  Brady got a ton of candy which he thought was pretty cool.  It was also nice that our parade spot was right in front of a QuickTrip so made it convenient to get a hot chocolate.  It certainly was not a nice day, but it was still nice to get outside of the house for a bit.  Spring weather cannot get here soon enough.  Cory was excited to see a local celebrity in the parade.  The guy with the guitar was the Little Ceaser's guy who advertised outside with a sign.  Little Ceasar's cut his hours so he advertised his services to the business next store and is now the Cash for Gold guitar guy.  If you drive down Shawnee Mission and give him a honk he'll do a little dance for you.  Personally I think he's a little creepy.
