January 2013

January is probably my least favorite month.  Not enough sun, too cold and can never can think of anything to do.  Brady, Ellie and I all spent a couple of days sick and of course it wasn't all at the same time which made it even worse.  Next year I need to remember to plan a warm vacation in January.

We were able to get a few smiles out of the kids despite feeling like we have been cooped up in the house.

Hunting for a Sasquatch

Brady loves Animal Planet.  One of his favorite series is Finding Big Foot.  Yes, perhaps a bit strange for a 4 year old.  He is convinced that they are going to find a Sasquatch soon and is on a lookout himself.  Leaving soccer Brady found some evidence of a squatch.  Check it out!

Ellie - 7 Months

Ellie is 7 months!

Unofficial Stats:
Weight: 16 lbs 8 ounces
Height: 25.5 inches

Other highlights from the past month:
  • Sleeping -  About the same as last month.  She's goes to bed around 8 - 8:30 and usually sleeps until around 5:30 - 6:00.  Ellie has had some ear troubles which results in her getting up once or twice during the night.
  • Favorite activities - Playing in her jumper, chewing on Sophie the giraffe, laughing with Brady.
  • Dislikes - some days I would say food.  She still despises taking medicine.  We wish she wouldn't have to take antibiotics so frequently.
  • Notable accomplishments - She is a confident sitter and started crawling the day after Christmas. Her crawling style is in between an army crawl and a regular crawl.
  • Eating - She is eating purees and has tried quite a few things, but it's very hit or miss.  She gets at least two meals a day of solids, but she definitely prefers mom's milk.
  • Other notable activities - We traveled to Wichita and to Peoria for the holidays.

2013 Resolutions

New year resolutions are meant to be in place by January 1st.  I had intentions of getting my plans in writing before 2013 was in full swing, but plans do not always materialize how you envision them.  Below are my fashionably late resolutions.
  • Make my bed MOST days - I love the feeling of walking into a room and seeing the a neatly made bed.  It's even better if the sheets are clean.  I however will admit that most days my bed goes unmade.  I realize it only takes about 90 - 120 seconds to make a bed properly, but most days I just don't feel I have those seconds to spare.   I started off 2013 making my bed.  30 days in I have already slipped back to bad habits.  I'm going to leave this as a goal, but will be happy with an improvement over 2012.
  • Eat PBJ sandwiches for dinner one time a week or less - When Cory's on the road Brady and I's dinners are pretty sad.  In 2013 I strive to improve the quality of dinners I put on the table.  I am not going to declare that I will make healthy, organic meals every night as I would fail.  I just want to limit the number of nights we eat sandwichs, cereal and my all time favorite not so gourmet meal - pancakes.
  • Take at least one, maybe two adult only vacations -  I am in desperate need of a vacation.  We don't have anything planned, but need to get something on the books to look forward to.  Family members reading this, we would greatly appreciate volunteers to come watch our super well behaved, loving children.
  • Teach Brady to read - We really want Brady to be a good reader.  I was an early reader and can remember hanging out in my room reading book after book at a young age.  We have started reading Bob Books with Brady and practicing sight words.  He can read about 10 books right now and is pretty good at sounding out words.  In the day of ipads, Wiis and Leap pads I think we have our work cut out for us to keep the kids away from screens, but perhaps if he learns to read he will sometimes choose books over screens.
  • Find balance - At this point I'm not sure how to accomplish this, but juggling careers and family is an on-going challenge.  I want to end 2013 healthier, happier and with less stress.  If anyone has the magic answer to this one I would love to hear it.
Happy 2013 everyone and good luck with whatever resolutions you have set for yourself!

New Year's Day Sledding

Cory and Brady went sledding on New Years Day.  It was really convenient that the snow came before a day off work.  Brady had a blast and he told me he sledded with one eye.  I guess his hat was crocked and he couldn't see very well.
